Super Bowl Party

On Sunday, January 26, 2003, Or Zarua held its first Super Bowl party. A group of more than 75 Or Zarua members and their guests enjoyed a day of great football, fun and food. The afternoon began with davening and everyone then gathered in the social hall for an evening of football, great conversation and terrific kosher food from Dougie's - including ribs, buffalo wings, chili, grilled chicken salad and other treats.

Initially there was debate about whether the Super Bowl should be a synagogue event. After the fact, however, what became clear is how strong is our shared sense of community and how powerfully we share the desire and conviction that our synagogue play a central role in our lives - for events which are uniquely Jewish, certainly, but even for events which aren't.

As a result of the success of our first Super Bowl fabrengen, we've decided to make it an annual event, beginning with Minhah, followed by words and insights from the Rabbi, followed by Ma'ariv; and, then, great food and the game. We're already looking forward to the 2008 party!

Voluntary contributions may be made to the Congregation's Minyan Fund.
