Harvey is a Fellow in Temple Administration ("FTA" as conferred by NATA, The National Association for Temple Administration, The Union for Reform Judaism and The Central Conference of American Rabbis) and the author of the thesis, "Merging Congregations: The Exploration, Facilitation and Execution of a Synagogue Merger and the Role of the Administrator/Executive Director in the process", (THESIS LINK) published in April, 2008.
He earned his Bachelor in Economics degree from Queens College of the City University of New York and his Master's in Education from St. John's University. He also holds certification in budgeting and forecasting from the SPAR Institute.
Harvey enjoyed a successful 30+ year career in sales, marketing and general business management before transitioning into the not-for-profit world as a synagogue executive. He was board chairman of his own synagogue, Temple Beth Ahm in Aberdeen, NJ for nearly 9 years and is active in his township's local government.
Harvey joined Congregation Or Zarua, in July, 2009, after serving in the same capacity at Temple Har Shalom in Warren, NJ. He is an active member of both NAASE and NATA (respectively, the national peer organizations of synagogue executives in the Conservative and Reform movements). He is the current VP Communications for GANSE, the Garden Network for Synagogue Executives and is also the representative of the Conservative movement to the governing board of MetroASE (a pan-denominational group promoting continuing education for Metro New York synagogue executives).
Harvey leads synagogue board and officer training workshops on the subjects of "Ethical Decision-making in the Synagogue Boardroom" (a case-study based 'coaching clinic' on how to frame board decisions within the context of a Jewish, faith-based organization) and "Merging Congregations: If not now, when?" (everything you need to know about co-programming, co-locating and synagogue mergers). He has also been a featured presenter for METNY District of USCJ on both of the above subjects and at national conferences of both NATA and NAASE.
