Reflections on Sukkot
Ruth Calderon, former Knesset member and influential Israeli educator, will speak during Shabbat services on Rabbinic conceptions of home, relating to the profound implications of our building a sukkah – a temporary shelter yet also an enduring symbol of God’s permanent sheltering presence – and making it our home during the joyous holiday of Sukkot. Following kiddush in the Sukkah, will discuss the complex challenges arising from Israel’s dual identity as a Jewish nation state and a liberal democracy.
