February 8, 2020, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Each year on Shabbat Shirah we read in parashat Beshalah of the Israelites’ miraculous crossing of the Sea of Reeds and their joyous poetic singing in celebration of their divine deliverance. Through this special Shabbat, we revel annually in the song and music that
animated our ancestors’ unique experience and that continues to inspire our own.
Our Sabbath of Song observance this year will be greatly enhanced through the company of Kaskeset, SUNY Binghamton’s dynamic Jewish a cappella group, who will uplift our spirits through beautiful and exuberant harmony over the course of a transformative Shabbat.
Join us for Shabbat services on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 am.
During services, Kaskeset will present a Sermon in Song. After services, join the community for a special OZ Birthday Kiddush celebration – We are 31 years old!
After Kiddush, we’ll go back up to the sanctuary for a Post-Kiddush Concert with Kaskeset.
Our Sabbath of Song observance this year will be greatly enhanced through the company of Kaskeset, SUNY Binghamton’s dynamic Jewish a cappella group, who will uplift our spirits through beautiful and exuberant harmony over the course of a transformative Shabbat. Kaskeset (meaning “scales” in Hebrew), established in 1996, is Binghamton University’s only Jewish a cappella group and has performed across the country for audiences of all ages, including for the Israeli Ambassador’s United Nations Hanukkah reception and the State Department in Washington DC. With an impressively diverse repertoire, Kaskeset has produced six studio albums and has won recognition at several a cappella singing competitions. Check out some of Kaskeset’s great music at kaskesetbinghamton.com. Kaskeset will join us to make our Friday
night services even more vibrant, and then return to our sanctuary during Shabbat morning services to deliver a Sermon in Song. After our Or Zarua Birthday kiddush, Kaskeset will perform a Shabbat afternoon concert (at approximately 1 pm). As Shabbat ends there will be a Family Havdalah (6:15 pm) and a light dinner. Kaskeset will make a cappella come alive for our members and children with a special show.
