SUMMARY:Leil S'lihot and Sinful Desserts
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nWhat Did Jonah Know and When Did He Know It?\n\n\n\n\n\
n\nDr. Regina Stein\, member of Congregation Or Zarua\n\nWe read the Book
of Jonah on the afternoon of Yom Kippur because the Rabbis understood the
city of Nineveh to be the paradigm of efficacious repentance. But Jonah wa
s unhappy about this. By examining what Jonah says and does\, we might gai
n a deeper understanding of his extreme displeasure and hopefully make our
own experience of Yom Kippur richer and more meaningful.\n\nDr. Regina St
ein is currently the Scholar-in-Residence at the Museum at Eldridge Street
. She has a B.A. in History from Brooklyn College\, an M.S. in Information
Systems from the City College of New York\, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Jewi
sh History from the Jewish Theological Seminary.\n\nRegina served as Natio
nal Director of the Hadassah Leadership Academy and has been on the facult
y of the Academy for Jewish Religion and CLAL\, the National Jewish Center
for Learning and Leadership. She taught for the Skirball Center for Adult
Jewish Learning\, the Wexner Heritage Foundation\, the Bronfman Youth Fel
lowships in Israel\, as well as JTS\, Temple University\, and the Pardes I
nstitute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem.\n\n\n
