Part 2 of the 2025 Or Zarua Gleaning Project is almost upon us. On Erev Christmas Eli Zabar is again extending his generosity to donate food from some of his retail outlets and we will again be gleaning. The Erev Christmas Gleaning Project will take place on Wednesday evening, December 24.
As we did on Erev Thanksgiving, the Gleaning will take place at Eli’s Market on Third Avenue/80th Street and Eli’s Essentials outlets at 87th Street/Lexington Avenue, 91st Street/Madison Avenue and 73rd Street/Madison Avenue. We were able to perform the Erev Thanksgiving Gleaning, where we did the packing of the donations, at all locations but 73rd Street/Madison Avenue, and I am hoping that this will happen for Part 2. Additional notices will be sent as more precise information is received including the actual starting time(s).I want, again, to remind everyone that the Gleaning Project has always been a thoughtful experience for the children of the OZ community, many of whom participated on Erev Thanksgiving and did a wonderful job. For some, it is an early lesson towards understanding that there are many members of this and other communities within New York City who are not as fortunate as are most of us and, but for what we gather and deliver, they would be without Holiday meals. For many it becomes the primary meal for more than one day. This year, given the uncertainties with Federal funding of so many food-security organizations, this need is even more pronounced.
