Balancing the Equation: The Math of the Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments (the Aseret HaDibrot) – arguably the most important text in Judaism – are a highly relevant subject of study on Shavuot night, as we celebrate the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. But studying the Ten Commandments is no simple matter, as their underlying “math” is anything but straightforward.
Please join our communal learning session for Tikkun Leil Shavuot as Rabbi Bolton and congregant Marc Ashley lead a compelling discussion of the intriguingly muddled numbers game of the Ten Commandments.

Poetry Happening: Imagination and Creative Fire
June 22, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
A Poetry Happening:
Imagination & Creative Fire
Wine & Poetry June 22 7pm with Rabbi Bolton and Shelley Saposnik
And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
Turns them to shapes, and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.
-William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Is imagination ever your starting place? When? For what? For a poem? A prayer? What is the nature of imagination and what part does it play in the creative process?
This month we explore the role of imagination in poems and writing poetry. We ponder how the creative process is informed by our will to imagine or the imaginative sparks that come.to us in waking hours or in our dreams. We will peek at Julia Cameron’s THE ARTIST WAY to kindle our own creative fire and use its power to coax a poem into existence.
Join when we will sip some wine as we share poems, our own or those of our favorite poets in Poetry Happening.
