Hevra Kadisha Program and Dinner with Sarit Wishnevski

When

November 5, 2026
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

“Learning, Talking and Building Community”

Thank you to our sponsors, Ilona and Ben Charkow. Catered by Eyal Shani’s Kosher Miznon restaurant. No charge, but please email Annie if you plan to attend.

Join us for our fall Hevra Kadisha event as we learn from and talk with Sarit Wishnevski of Kavod v’Nichum, an organization that empowers, educates, and trains Hevra Kadisha. Last March we joined Kavod v’Nichum virtually for the screening of The Sacred Society on Zayin Adar. (Read more about Sarit and Kavod v/Nichum below.)

On November 5, we will serve a light dinner and study some texts with Sarit, followed by a “fireside chat” between Sarit and Ben Charkow. We’ll begin with a brief, interactive exploration of the prayers that bookend our days, Elohai Neshama and Hashkiveinu, and how Jewish ritual and prayer invite us to notice life’s gifts and care for one another. We will follow that with a discussion of Sarit’s work and how she got here, as well as field any questions from those in attendance.

Let’s gather and build community when we’re not facing an urgent need. There is no charge to attend and no one will be turned away at the door, but if you plan on coming, please RSVP (early!) so that we can get an idea of how many people to expect and order enough food.

At the end of the program, we’ll be saying prayers for Israel which will provide an opportunity for anyone in mourning or observing a yahrzeit to say Kaddish.
