Thursday evening, Dec. 24
Just a reminder that it is again the season for OZ’s Erev Christmas Gleaning Project and Eli Zabar is again extending his generosity to donate food from some of his retail outlets. The Gleaning Project on Erev Christmas will take place on Thursday evening, December 24.
As in past years, the Gleaning will take place at Eli’s Market on Third Avenue/80th Street and Eli’s Essentials outlets at 87th Street/Lexington Avenue, 91st Street/Madison Avenue and 73rd Street/Madison Avenue. The starting times have not yet been determined but last year the starting time at Eli’s Market was 7:15 pm and the starting time at 87th/Lexington was 8:00 pm. Last year, and most years post-COVID, the other locations involved loading a truck with the already packed donations. I am hoping that this year we will be able to do more of the actual packing.
As I say each year, the Gleaning Project has always been a great project for the children of the OZ community. For some, it is the first lesson towards understanding that there are many members of this and other communities within New York City who are not as fortunate as are most of us and but for what we gather and deliver they would be without a Holiday meal. For many it becomes the primary meal for more than one day.
Please let me know as soon as you can if you are interested in participating by email at jeff32449@verizon.net or by text message or telephone call at (917) 697-1677.
Thanks for your consideration of this Project,
