A homily for Rosh Hashanah preserved in Pesiqta de-Rav Kahanah describes the sixth day of creation. It draws a direct connection between Rosh Hashanah, God’s daily schedule, and the themes of sin, judgment, and repentance. Dr. Kattan Gribetz will explore a series of rabbinic texts that reflect on the question of God’s time and on the connections between time, integrity, judgment, and forgiveness. What is the relationship between how we use our time and what we value, and how can we align our own daily schedules so that they reflect our values?
Sarit Kattan Gribetz is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Jewish Studies at Yale University. Her first book, Time and Difference in Rabbinic Judaism, received a National Jewish Book Award. Her second book, A Queen in Jerusalem: Helena of Adiabene and the Transmission of Tradition, is in press with Princeton University Press. She received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University and rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Maharat. She lives in Riverdale with her family.
